Michael Hoppes

West Area Representative

Lincoln-Southeast Nebraska

Michael was born and raised in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He attended Iowa Western Community College where he played baseball. Michael transferred to The University Nebraska Lincoln to play baseball and studied to become a Game Warden. Michael interned with FCA for two summers while in Lincoln and developed a passion for connecting Christ with sport and how the Gospel should infiltrate every aspect of our lives. Michael answered the call to ministry with FCA while waiting to hear back on job placement for Nebraska Game and Parks as a Game Warden.

Michael's passion for FCA is developing Gospel Community with Coaches. Helping them see the vision to bring the Gospel to bear in their respective programs. Walking alongside and serving them.

What excites Michael the most about being a part of FCA is the focus on the Gospel. Keeping the main thing the main thing. The Gospel is the source which ministry flows out of.

He says, “It’s encouraging when you keep the Gospel the focus of your interactions with coaches and athletes, when they respond, those responses most times are genuine. Those genuine responses, whether for or against, provide great opportunities for the Holy Spirit to do what only the Holy Spirit can do. By God's grace He allows us to come alongside and lean into good conversations about the truths and realities of the Gospel. By God's grace we get to see first hand Coaches and Athletes being brought from death to life through the message of the Gospel!”

Michael is married to Dani, who is a Veterinarian at Highlands Animal Health Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. They have one daughter, Lainey Jo, who was born at 27 weeks. Lainey Jo spent 64 days in the NICU in Lincoln, but by God's grace has no health issues and is full of spunk and passion. A few of Michael's favorite things to do are spending time with his wife and daughter, golfing, fishing, hunting and mowing grass!
